Jaipur, April 7 (NationPress) A special CBI court has sentenced the former employee of Western Central Railway, Jalandhar Yogi, who was stationed in Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, to five years of rigorous imprisonment due to a bribery case, officials announced on Tuesday.
The court also ordered the accused to pay a fine of Rs 25,000, after finding him guilty of soliciting and receiving illegal payments from a complainant in return for processing a pending bill.
As per the Central Bureau of Investigation, the case was initiated on June 16, 2020, following claims that Yogi had asked for a bribe of Rs 11,500 to expedite the clearance of a final bill related to work done by the complainant.
Following a thorough verification of the complaint, the agency set up a sting operation and apprehended the accused while he was accepting Rs 10,000 as a bribe. The money was confiscated at the time of his arrest, according to officials.
Yogi was serving as the Chief Office Superintendent (CoS) in the office of the Assistant Engineer (AEN), Western Central Railways, located in Gangapur City, Sawai Madhopur, when the crime occurred.
After a comprehensive investigation, the CBI submitted a charge sheet against Yogi on January 8, 2021, citing relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
