Ghaziabad, Dec 22 (NationPress) A Special CBI Court in Ghaziabad has handed down a four-year prison sentence to a former parcel supervisor from the Agra Fort Railway Station in connection with a bribery scandal that occurred in 2016. Rajneesh Chahar, who served as the Chief Parcel Supervisor at Agra Fort Railway Station, North Central Railway, Agra (UP), was also fined Rs 10,000.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) initiated the case on January 1, 2016. Chahar exploited his official capacity as a public servant by demanding a bribe from an individual to ensure the smooth operation of loading and unloading at the Awadh Express.
Specifically, he sought Rs 6,000 monthly from the complainant for permitting uninterrupted cargo operations from the train, as reported by the CBI.
Chahar was apprehended in the act of soliciting and accepting the bribe of Rs 6,000 on January 1, 2016, following a trap set by the agency.
Subsequent to a thorough investigation, the CBI submitted a chargesheet on February 26, 2016, with formal charges being established on March 16, 2016.
In a related case, another Special CBI Court in Lucknow sentenced three individuals, including a senior government official, to five years of rigorous imprisonment for corruption linked to the Sampurna Grameen Rozgar Yojna (SGRY), which resulted in over Rs 1 crore in government losses.
The convicted parties included Satyendra Singh Gangwar, the former Chief Finance and Accounts Officer of the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Ballia; Ashok Kumar Upadhyay, then Junior Accounts Clerk at DRDA Ballia; and Raghunath Yadav, a private individual.
The court imposed a total fine of Rs 77,000 on the three convicts. This verdict was delivered on December 20 after an extensive trial scrutinizing significant financial irregularities in the rural employment program designed to aid the underprivileged.
The CBI indicated that the original case was filed in 2006 at the Garwar police station in Ballia district, Uttar Pradesh, involving approximately 135 accused individuals.
