New Delhi, Dec 11 (NationPress) As operations gradually return to normal following a period of significant disruptions, IndiGo has set a goal to operate more than 1,950 flights today. The airline experienced a major crisis last week, which resulted in numerous cancellations and delays, causing severe congestion at major airports across the nation and leaving passengers waiting in long lines.
An IndiGo spokesperson indicated that all destinations in their network have been fully connected since December 8, and operations have been stabilizing since December 9.
“IndiGo is committed to enhancing its operations and improving its services daily, currently achieving over 1,900 flights that effectively connect all 138 destinations within our network,” the spokesperson stated.
“We expect to operate more than 1,950 flights today, accommodating around 300,000 customers,” the spokesperson added.
The spokesperson emphasized that there has been steady improvement, with the flight schedule remaining largely reliable over the past three days, with same-day cancellations only occurring “due to weather, technical issues, or other uncontrollable factors.”
On December 8, the airline operated more than 1,750 flights with only one same-day cancellation, followed by over 1,800 flights on December 9 with no cancellations. On December 10, over 1,900 flights were executed, with just two cancellations on that day.
“Our dedication to operational excellence has resulted in significant efficiency improvements, restoring our on-time performance to top-tier industry standards,” the spokesperson remarked.
“As the IndiGo team collaborates closely with authorities to further normalize operations, we remain dedicated to safety, efficiency, and providing exceptional support to every customer,” the spokesperson added.
Previously, IndiGo Chairman Vikram Singh Mehta announced that the airline’s Board will enlist external technical experts to work alongside management in identifying the root causes of last week’s substantial flight disruptions.
In a comprehensive statement, Mehta explained that the experts will assist in ensuring that such large-scale operational failures do not occur again.
He also expressed regret to passengers affected by the disruptions that took place between December 3 and 5.
In the meantime, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) established an eight-member special team on Wednesday to closely monitor IndiGo's operations as the airline continues to address ongoing disruptions across its network.
According to reports, two officials from this team will be stationed at IndiGo's corporate headquarters to examine daily processes and identify any gaps affecting flight operations.
