Raut and Wadettiwar Demand Fadnavis Resignation Over Acid Attack on Young Girl
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 18 (NationPress) In a sharp critique, Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson and party MP, Sanjay Raut, has taken aim at Maharashtra's Chief Minister and Home Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, following a horrific acid attack on an 11-year-old girl in Ahilyanagar. Raut proclaimed that if Fadnavis possesses any sense of morality, he ought to step down from overseeing the Home Department.
Meanwhile, Congress Legislative Party leader, Vijay Wadettiwar, raised the same concern through an adjournment motion, emphasizing that the violence against women and young girls in Maharashtra is unrelenting.
"The acid attack on a 6th-grade girl from Sangamner in Ahilyanagar is utterly enraging. Is there any remaining respect for the police in this state?" Wadettiwar demanded, asserting that law and order in Maharashtra has collapsed entirely.
Raut remarked, "An 11-year-old girl was viciously attacked with acid in Ahilyanagar. Yet, Devendra Fadnavis may deny that any such event occurred. He might assert that the government is competent and that the Home Department is attentive, insisting that women and girls are protected in our state—claiming that not a single hair on their heads will be harmed."
"We could even hear a response in the Legislative Assembly arguing that the victim was not a girl, but merely a lifeless doll," he added sarcastically.
Continuing his assault, Raut stated, "I urge Devendra Fadnavis to acknowledge that if he has any moral compass, he should relinquish his role in the Home Department. Your focus is spent on exacting revenge against political rivals, targeting the Opposition, and conducting surveillance. Even the Deputy Chief Ministers of Maharashtra are preoccupied with these issues; how can they possibly govern?"
Wadettiwar highlighted, "The young girl from Sangamner is in severe condition. With such a grave incident, how is the perpetrator still free? What gives them the audacity to evade capture? This marks a failure of the Home Department and the local police!"
He further criticized the local police administration harshly. "The Superintendent of Police is involved in corruption rather than apprehending criminals. His 'achievements' from his tenure in Raigad are well known. When those tasked with protection become corrupt, it emboldens criminals, leading to such brutal acts," he charged.
Wadettiwar also condemned the government, asserting that the Home Department has lost its grip over law enforcement. As incidents of abuse against young girls have surged within the state, the government merely stands by as a spectator.
In light of the serious nature of the issue raised by Wadettiwar, Legislative Assembly Speaker, Rahul Narwekar, acknowledged the situation. He noted the gravity of the information presented and directed the government to take urgent action regarding the case and to deliver a comprehensive report to the House.
Meanwhile, Raut commented on the lack of funding for MLAs and MPs from Opposition parties. "No financial support is being provided to the Opposition MLAs and MPs. They are being marginalized. There are explicit instructions from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the other two Deputy Chief Ministers not to assist Opposition MLAs or allot them even a single rupee of funding. As if this money belongs to their family. Did their ancestors earn this money? This is public money in the treasury,” he stated.
