Mumbai, Jan 14 (NationPress) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis delivered a sharp critique of Uddhav Thackeray, the head of Shiv Sena (UBT), on Wednesday, accusing him of engaging in minority appeasement and forsaking the Hindutva values championed by his father, Balasaheb Thackeray.
In an exclusive interview with IANS before the upcoming state civic polls, Fadnavis claimed that pro-Pakistan slogans were shouted and flags displayed at events associated with Thackeray’s faction.
He further alleged that individuals implicated in the Mumbai bomb blast incident had shown up at Thackeray’s rallies to solicit votes.
“Members of his party visit mosques and assure that loudspeakers will be reinstated if Uddhav Thackeray regains power. What message does this convey?” Fadnavis questioned.
Reaffirming the BJP’s foundational principles, the Chief Minister stated that their party adheres to Hindutva in its genuine form. “Our ideology is not superficial. Anyone who embraces our culture and traditions is a Hindu in our view, regardless of their background,” he expressed to IANS.
Fadnavis emphasized that the type of appeasement tactics allegedly employed by Thackeray will not be accepted.
“Uddhav Thackeray is doing precisely what Balasaheb Thackeray spent his life opposing. I believe he has entirely renounced Hindutva,” he remarked.
On the contentious references to Khan, Pathan, and burqa, Fadnavis accused the opposition of politicizing these matters.
“These aren't issues we raised. The opposition brought them up during the municipal elections, and we merely responded,” he stated.
He claimed that while the BJP has prioritized development and project delivery, the opposition has sought to distract voters by emphasizing identity-related issues.
“We have focused solely on development, and we have numerous examples of our achievements,” he informed IANS.
As a jab at Thackeray, Fadnavis offered a reward for anyone who could present a speech by the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader that centered on development.
“Initially, I announced a reward of Rs 1,000, which I later increased to Rs 7,000, yet no one has been able to present an instance of Uddhav Thackeray discussing development,” he noted.
The civic elections for 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra, including the crucial Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), are set to take place on Thursday, with vote counting scheduled for Friday.
