Chandigarh, June 17 (NationPress) The Haryana Police announced on Tuesday that they have cracked the murder of 24-year-old Haryanvi model Sheetal Choudhary, who was active in Haryanvi music videos. The suspect, Sunil, a father of two, was apprehended in Panipat.
Sunil, residing in Israna, was taken into custody on Monday evening for his alleged involvement in the stabbing death of the model.
The victim’s family reported her missing on June 15.
Her lifeless body, which showed signs of brutal violence including a slit throat and numerous stab wounds, was discovered in a canal in Sonipat on Monday morning.
Known by the nickname Simmi, Sheetal lived with her sister in Panipat and was involved in creating music videos.
The police revealed that an altercation occurred between Sunil and Sheetal on Saturday night, escalating into a physical confrontation where Sunil stabbed her multiple times and subsequently disposed of her body in a canal.
Sub-Inspector Sandeep informed the press that Sheetal’s elder sister, Neha, filed a missing person report on June 15.
Neha indicated that her sister went out for a shoot but did not return. Despite the family's search efforts, they were unable to locate her.
“Neha reported to the police that a man named Sunil, her ex-boyfriend, had assaulted her sister and attempted to force her to leave with him,” stated Deputy Superintendent of Police Satish Vats.
Sunil's vehicle was later discovered submerged in a canal in Panipat under suspicious circumstances on Sunday. Although he was rescued from the car, Sheetal was not found with him.
Neha has accused Sunil of attempting to mislead the police by covering up the incident.
Nevertheless, Sheetal's body was recovered from the canal in Kharkhoda, and tattoos on her hands and chest confirmed her identity.
Authorities verified that the body matched the details provided in the missing person report filed in Panipat.
“Sunil is now in custody, and the investigation is ongoing from all angles. His statements are inconsistent, and we are awaiting the autopsy results,” said Bhupender Singh, the Superintendent of Police in Panipat.
The body has been sent to Khanpur Medical College for an autopsy.
In her statement, Neha mentioned that Sunil had known her sister since their time working at a hotel in Karnal.
“He proposed marriage, but Sheetal declined after discovering he was already married and had two children. Even after she left the job, Sunil continued to harass her,” Neha explained.
Police teams from both Panipat and Sonipat are currently collaborating on the investigation.
