Patna, June 17 (NationPress) In a shocking breach of court security, a prisoner made a daring escape from Patna Civil Court on Tuesday by cutting his handcuffs and fleeing through a toilet window.

This incident has once again raised alarms about the insufficient security measures in place at the court.

The individual who escaped has been identified as Vikas Kumar, hailing from Rani Talab under the jurisdiction of Paliganj police station in Patna district.

Previously incarcerated in Phulwari Jail, he was brought to the court for a hearing related to a case registered at the Buddha Colony police station.

According to the SHO of Pirbahore police station, Vikas was brought to court at approximately 10:45 AM. Before the hearing, he asked to use the toilet and was escorted there by police officers while still in handcuffs, but they did not closely monitor him inside.

“The prisoner entered the toilet alone while the officers held the rope from outside. After nearly 20 minutes, they sensed something was amiss as the rope had slackened. Upon investigation, they found that he had cut the rope, broken the window grill, and escaped,” explained Abdul Haleem, SHO of Pirbahore police station.

“Once alerted, we arrived at the scene and launched an investigation. A case has been registered, and raids are ongoing to locate the escaped prisoner,” Haleem added.

“We have filed an FIR regarding this incident and are working to pinpoint his whereabouts. We suspect he may have received assistance from someone outside. Additionally, a departmental inquiry has been initiated against the security personnel present at the court lockup,” Haleem stated.

This escape has intensified concerns regarding the security protocols within the court, particularly concerning the transit and management of undertrial prisoners.

Vikas Kumar is currently facing serious allegations and was in custody for a criminal case registered at the Buddha Colony police station.
