Bhopal, May 19 (NationPress) Anurag Mishra, the brother of the late Congress leader Sarla Mishra, filed a formal application with the police in Bhopal, urging them to initiate legal action against those responsible for his sister's demise.
The report was lodged at the T. T. Nagar police station in Bhopal, seeking to register an FIR against the former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Digvijaya Singh, his younger brother and former MLA Lakshman Singh, the Investigation Officer (IO) handling the case, and several others.
According to Man Singh, the T. T. Nagar police station in-charge, "Today, we received an application from Anurag Mishra, who alleged that former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh, his brother Lakshman Singh, and others are implicated in her sister's suicide and has called for a case against them."
This development follows a ruling from a judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) court in Bhopal, which mandated a reinvestigation of the case, suggesting that prior inquiries were insufficient.
The order for a fresh investigation comes nearly 28 years after Sarla Mishra's tragic death.
On April 17, JMFC Palak Rai noted that the evidence presented in Anurag Mishra’s protest petition, along with witness statements, indicated that the earlier investigation might have been flawed.
Consequently, the court instructed the T. T. Nagar police to reopen the investigation.
Sarla Mishra, a prominent Youth Congress leader from Narmadapuram, was discovered severely burned in her government residence in Bhopal on February 14, 1997. She succumbed to her injuries at New Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital on February 19, 1997.
After an extensive three-year investigation, the T. T. Nagar police concluded it to be a suicide case and formally closed the inquiry in 2000.
However, the closure report was filed in court over 19 years later in Bhopal.
Anurag Mishra contested the closure report, asserting it was a case of murder.
On April 17, he revealed that his elder brother, Anand Mishra, had met Sarla just days before the tragic incident, during which she expressed her concerns regarding escalating conflicts with Digvijaya Singh and Lakshman Singh, the Rajgarh MP. He questioned, "Why didn’t the police document my elder brother’s statements?"
