Kolkata, Feb 28 (NationPress) The weapons involved in the murder of a 27-year-old promoter in Howrah's Peelkhana region have been seized by authorities. The main suspects, Harun Khan and Rohit Hossain, are still at large, as reported by the police on Saturday.
As per police reports, officers from the Golabari Police Station unearthed two firearms and two live rounds from the water tank at the residence of Mohammad Wakil, also known as Munna, located in Boubazar, central Kolkata, late last night.
On Wednesday morning, Shafiq Khan, the promoter, was shot dead at close range in Peelkhana.
Sources indicate that after the killing, Harun Khan and Rohit Hossain sought refuge in the home of their accomplice, Mohammad Wakil, in Boubazar.
The firearms had been concealed in that water tank. A joint operation involving the Howrah City Police and the Golabari Police led to the arrest of three individuals, namely Mohammad Bilal, Mohammad Wakil, and Dildar Hossain, who are believed to be indirectly linked to the murder.
Nevertheless, the primary suspects, Harun Khan and Rohit Hossain, have evaded capture. Police suspect they may have fled to other states outside West Bengal. Authorities are currently analyzing CCTV footage to locate them.
Additionally, new CCTV footage has emerged showing the actual moment of the murder.
In a related development, the state government has initiated a CID investigation into the matter. The bereaved family of Shafiq Khan has expressed dissatisfaction with the police's response, prompting the state government to launch this investigation.
It’s worth mentioning that a viral video surfaced showing Harun Khan riding on the back of Howrah Uttar MLA Gautam Chowdhuri’s motorbike. Furthermore, a photo of Harun Khan walking alongside the MLA has also circulated widely.
This has led to opposition parties questioning the police's efficiency in apprehending the suspects, given their apparent connections to local political figures.
In response, the Trinamool Congress has dismissed all claims, asserting that anyone can meet with elected officials.
