Kolkata, March 5 (NationPress) A state police team has successfully apprehended the two primary suspects involved in the murder of a promoter in Howrah district, West Bengal, during a raid in Delhi on Thursday, according to an official report.
Harun Khan and Rohit Hossain were taken into custody in the Jama Masjid area of the national capital. They are currently being transported back to Kolkata under a transit remand, as per Howrah City Police's ACP, North-I Division, Shaik Habeebulla.
Following their arrest, the suspects will be handed over to the West Bengal CID, which is spearheading the investigation into this case.
Howrah Police indicated that after the murder of promoter Shafiq Khan in the Peelkhana locality under the Golabari police station jurisdiction on February 25, the accused fled from Kolkata to Bihar and subsequently to Delhi.
The Howrah police had been actively searching for the suspects, utilizing information from various sources. They also employed advanced technology to track their movements. The breakthrough came when the suspects were located in Delhi after analyzing CCTV footage from the station and receiving crucial information.
On February 28, law enforcement recovered the weapons used in the fatal shooting of the 27-year-old promoter.
Police reports indicate that officers from Golabari police station confiscated two firearms and two rounds of ammunition from a water tank at the residence of arrested accomplice, Mohammad Wakil alias Munna, located in Boubazar, central Kolkata.
It is reported that after fatally shooting Shafiq Khan, Khan and Hossain sought refuge in the residence of their associate Wakil in Boubazar, where the firearm was concealed in the water tank.
The collaborative efforts of Howrah City Police and the Golabari police station led to the arrests of Wakil, alongside Mohammad Bilal and Dildar Hossain, who were indirectly implicated in the murder case.
Despite these arrests, the main suspects were initially untraceable. Meanwhile, the state government has mandated a CID investigation into this incident.
