What Led to the Arrest of 3 Gang Members in Mohali's Kabaddi Player Murder?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Jan 12 (NationPress) Three members of a notorious gang operating in Punjab were apprehended at Howrah station, according to police reports on Monday. This arrest is linked to the murder of a kabaddi player in Punjab on December 15.
As per sources from Howrah City Police, the suspects were seized by a team from the Golabari police station on Saturday night.
The individuals have been identified as Karan Pathak, Tarandeep Singh, and Akashdeep Singh.
Law enforcement indicated that these three are connected to organized crime in Punjab and have multiple charges against them. They all hail from Punjab.
The Punjab Police Special Task Force (STF) had been actively seeking the trio. Following the murder of the kabaddi player on December 15, the suspects had been evading capture.
They had traveled to Kolkata via Gangtok in an attempt to hide, but were planning to escape quickly. They intended to board a train from Howrah station on Sunday night to flee to another destination.
Upon receiving intelligence from various sources, the Punjab STF alerted the Golabari police station, resulting in the arrests.
Acting on a tip-off, Howrah City Police heightened their alert. The suspects were identified while on the station premises at night.
Initially, the apprehended individuals claimed to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. However, sources from Punjab Police suggest that this was an attempt to mislead investigators, as they are believed to belong to a rival faction. Police continue to seek additional information regarding the suspects.
It’s important to note that last month, a social media post claimed responsibility for the murder of kabaddi player Rana Balachauria in Mohali, describing it as “revenge” for the killing of singer Sidhu Moosewala.
The Instagram reel, allegedly posted by a smaller gang with connections to the Bambiha gang, stated in Punjabi that the attack was intended to “avenge” Moosewala’s 2022 murder, claiming that Rana Balachauria had ties to the gangs of Lawrence Bishnoi and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria.
Rana Balachauria, a sports event promoter and player, was fatally shot while attending a local kabaddi tournament in Mohali’s Sohana area. His real name was Kanwar Digvijay Singh.
