Chandigarh, Jan 27 (NationPress) The Counter Intelligence unit of the Punjab Police in Amritsar has successfully averted a potential target killing by detaining six individuals linked to the Kaushal Chaudhary gang. This group includes two prominent shooters, Puneet Lakhanpal and Narinder Kumar, also known as Lalli, both of whom played roles in the murders of kabaddi player Sandeep Singh Nangal Ambian and Sukhmeet Singh, as stated by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Monday.
The remaining four detainees have been identified as Harpreet Singh, Gurbhinder Singh, Sandeep Singh, and Maninderjit Singh.
Authorities have seized six foreign-made .30 bore pistols along with 40 rounds from the captured individuals.
DGP Yadav noted that this gang was also implicated in an indiscriminate shooting incident at the Highway King Hotel in Rajasthan and attempted to extort Rs 5 crore in September 2024.
All apprehended suspects have prior criminal records and have been on the run for the past three years, he added.
Initial inquiries suggest that these individuals are professional shooters operating within the organized crime framework of the Kaushal Chaudhary gang.
The gang’s influence extends across Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, and beyond, executing criminal tasks as per directives from their foreign-based leaders.
Detailing the operation, the DGP mentioned that on Sunday, the Counter Intelligence team in Amritsar received intelligence indicating that members of the Kaushal Chaudhary gang, including Amarjit Singh, Jagjit Singh, Balwinder Singh, Prabhdeep Singh, and others were planning a targeted killing from abroad with help from local affiliates.
The intel specified that local gang members were seen near the Haveli restaurant in Jandiala in Amritsar, armed and ready. Acting promptly, police teams set up a special checkpoint, leading to the arrest of six gang members and the recovery of firearms and ammunition.
Further investigations are underway to expose deeper connections within their criminal network, which spans across various states and encompasses illegal activities such as extortion, arms trafficking, and organized violence.
