Chandigarh, Jan 12 (NationPress) In a significant development concerning the murder of former sarpanch Jharmal Singh, Punjab Police announced the apprehension of seven suspects on Monday, which includes two shooters, delivering a substantial blow to the Prabh Dasuwal gang.
The Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav stated that the investigation has identified gangster Prabh Dasuwal as the orchestrator of the murder, motivated by longstanding animosity, emphasizing the crime's calculated and targeted nature.
The DGP, alongside Additional Director General of Police (Counter Intelligence) Amit Prasad, Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) Sukhchain Singh Gill, and Commissioner of Police Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, highlighted that this breakthrough showcases the police's commitment to tackling organized crime.
Details of the arrests revealed the identities of the accused: Sukhraj Singh, alias Gunga (20), Karamjeet Singh (23), Jobanpreet Singh (19), Harpreet Singh, alias Happy (27), Jobanpreet Singh (20), Kulwinder Singh, alias Kinda (20), and Armandeep Singh.
DGP Yadav pointed out that Sukhraj Singh has a criminal background involving theft and violations of the Arms Act, and was also implicated in the murder of sarpanch Rajwinder Singh.
Investigations indicated that gangster Prabh Dasuwal harbored previous enmity with the former sarpanch, having previously fired at him, which indicates a well-planned and methodical conspiracy.
The case was prioritized, leading to the formation of multiple specialized teams for swift investigation. “The inquiry, supported by a blend of technical surveillance and precise human intelligence, led to the identification of both shooters, Sukhraj Singh and Karamjeet Singh, involved in the offense,” said DGP Yadav.
He further mentioned that extensive interstate collaboration, intelligence-driven tracking, and close coordination with Central agencies and Chhattisgarh Police resulted in the capture of both shooters in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
“Both suspects were intentionally altering their locations across various states, including Maharashtra, Delhi, Bihar, Punjab, and Chhattisgarh, while using counterfeit Aadhaar cards to hide their identity and escape police detection,” he elaborated.
The DGP also confirmed the arrest of two additional suspects, both named Jobanpreet Singh, from Mohali. Harpreet Singh was apprehended in Valtoha, while Kulwinder Singh and Armandeep Singh were caught in the Bhikhiwind area of Tarn Taran.
He added that investigations highlighted the crucial role of these five suspects in the conspiracy by providing logistics, housing, weapons, and a motorcycle to the shooters.
