Key Takeaways
Chandigarh, Feb 18 (NationPress) In light of the tragic murder of Harbarinder Singh, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has stepped in to oversee the investigation personally. On Wednesday, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav instructed Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) for the Ferozepur Range, Snehdeep Sharma, and Senior Superintendent of Police (Tarn Taran) Surendra Lamba to take direct charge of the inquiry and ensure that the criminals are apprehended swiftly.
According to reports, Harbarinder Singh was fatally shot by two unidentified gunmen during a wedding event at Sidhu Farm, located within the jurisdiction of Police Station Sarhali.
He unfortunately succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital.
Another attendee attempted to pursue the shooters and received a gunshot wound to the leg during the ensuing chaos, and is currently receiving medical attention.
Addressing accountability, DGP Yadav announced the suspension of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Jagbir Singh and Station House Officer (SHO) Gurvinder Singh due to the lack of adequate preventive policing measures.
The DGP reiterated the Punjab government's unwavering commitment to uphold law and order in the state.
SSP Surendra Lamba provided updates on the investigation, stating that preliminary findings do not indicate any links to threats or extortion. However, there seems to be a strong possibility of personal enmity or revenge as a motive, he noted.
The SSP confirmed that the case is being investigated thoroughly from all angles using scientific and technical methods.
Four specialized teams have been formed to analyze CCTV footage under the guidance of various officers, and an additional team, along with the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), is examining the crime scene.
“We will conduct a comprehensive investigation and ensure that the perpetrators receive severe penalties,” the SSP concluded.
