Chandigarh, Nov 10 (NationPress) In a significant intelligence-driven operation, the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) of Punjab Police in Amritsar has successfully thwarted potential targeted assassinations in the region. Four individuals tied to a gangster network were apprehended, and two advanced firearms were seized from them, as disclosed by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Monday.
The suspects have been identified as Jagpreet Singh, alias Jagga, Mohammad Singh, Lavish Nahar, and Amarbir Singh.
The confiscated firearms consist of a 9MM Glock pistol with a magazine and five cartridges, alongside a .30 bore Star Mark pistol with a magazine and three cartridges.
DGP Yadav stated that initial inquiries indicate that the accused were in close communication with a gangster based in Portugal, operating under his instructions. This foreign handler was responsible for orchestrating the delivery of the firearms seized in this operation.
The investigation has further revealed that the suspects had conducted reconnaissance on specific targets within the Batala and Amritsar areas, with the sophisticated weapons intended for those targets. DGP Yadav emphasized that crucial leads regarding the gang's operations are currently being pursued.
Assistant Inspector General Sukhminder Singh Mann provided operational insights, noting that the module was dismantled based on precise intelligence, which led police teams in Amritsar to arrest the suspects. He added that the accused had, under the direction of their foreign handler, transported weapons and funds on several occasions.
Ongoing investigations aim to trace all connections related to this case. An FIR No. 66 dated November 9 has been registered under Section 25 of the Arms Act and Section 61 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Police Station State Special Operation Cell in Amritsar.
