Key Takeaways
Chandigarh, April 20 (NationPress) The Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) has dismantled a criminal network linked to gangsters operating from abroad, resulting in the apprehension of four individuals and the confiscation of two foreign-manufactured .30 calibre pistols along with eight cartridges, as stated by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Monday.
The individuals arrested have been identified as Arman Singh from Ugana village in Patiala; Chirag from Nalas Khurd village in Patiala; Ravinder Singh, also known as Rahul, from Nalas Kalan village in Rajpura, Patiala; and Akshay, known as Prince, from Dhamoli village in Patiala.
In addition to the pistols, the police also recovered a sedan in which the suspects were traveling.
DGP Yadav indicated that initial investigations suggest that one of the apprehended, Akshay, played a role in the murder of the owner of a 'Wear Well' showroom in Abohar in July 2025, providing logistical support to the main perpetrators. He added that further arrests are anticipated soon.
Additional Director General of Police (AGTF) Promod Ban revealed that based on credible information regarding the movement of four operatives of this syndicate towards Mohali via the Ambala-Chandigarh highway, a specialized team comprising AGTF and Mohali Police was established, and checkpoints were strategically placed along the highway.
The police team successfully intercepted the suspects near the Janetpur link road on the highway, recovering two foreign-made pistols and ammunition from them.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Mohali) Harmandeep Hans provided further insights, stating that preliminary inquiries have shown that the arrested individuals were instructed by their foreign handlers to execute significant criminal activities within the state.
"These arrests have prevented potential crimes in the region," asserted the SSP.
