Punjab Police Uncover Major Interstate Weapons Trafficking; 10 Homemade Pistols Captured
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chandigarh, March 26 (NationPress) In a significant operation, the Punjab Police have dismantled an interstate network engaged in the illegal supply of weapons. Two suspects from Uttar Pradesh were apprehended, leading to the recovery of 10 country-made pistols of 7.65 MM caliber and 20 magazines, as reported by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Thursday.
The individuals taken into custody have been identified as Dalesh Kumar, also known as Saurav Kumar or Nannu, from Paindapur village in Aligarh, and Amit Chahar from Baseri Chahar village in Agra.
This operation follows nearly a month after two operatives associated with the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) — Sukhwinder, alias Sunny, and Rawal — were arrested for acquiring and placing three grenades and one IED in Balachaur, directed by their handler based abroad, Jassi Kulam.
The same IED was later implicated in a blast at a police station in Nalagarh, Himachal Pradesh. According to DGP Yadav, both suspects were apprehended in Mathura, where the first recovery of five pistols and ten magazines was made from Dalesh Kumar's Grand Vitara vehicle.
Following his disclosure, an additional five pistols and ten magazines were seized from the Mathura-Palwal highway, bringing the total to 10 pistols and 20 magazines.
The DGP indicated that the arrests have unveiled connections to overseas criminals based in Germany and the US, who are supplying arms to gangs in Punjab. Both suspects were also implicated in procuring firearms and conducting firing incidents for extortion at a travel agent's home in Garhshankar, under the guidance of foreign handlers. Consequently, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act at a police station in Amritsar.
