Chandigarh, March 6 (NationPress) The Punjab Police have successfully dismantled a cross-border illegal arms smuggling operation, leading to the arrest of six suspects, including a juvenile. Authorities seized five advanced pistols along with a sharp-edged weapon, as reported by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Friday.
The arrested individuals in Amritsar are identified as Rohit Kumar (18), Karanbir Singh, also known as Ajay (24), Jashandeep Singh, also referred to as Giani (18), Onkar Singh, known as Vansh (21), Akashdeep Singh (24), and a 16-year-old juvenile.
The confiscated firearms consist of a .30 Bore pistol, a 9MM Glock, a .30 Bore PX5, a 9MM Taurus, and a 9MM Gretta (imported from Pakistan), along with 34 cartridges, officials stated.
DGP Yadav indicated that preliminary investigations suggest the suspects were in contact with arms smugglers based in Pakistan via social media, receiving weapon shipments through drones across the border.
The accused were reportedly coordinating the delivery of arms based on instructions from their handlers, distributing them across various regions, the DGP added.
