Chandigarh, Jan 21 (NationPress) The Punjab Police have successfully dismantled a cross-border illegal arms trafficking operation associated with smugglers from Pakistan, resulting in the apprehension of two suspects and the recovery of six advanced pistols, as reported by Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, on Wednesday.
The individuals taken into custody are Gurpreet Singh, also known as Gopi (22), and Surjit Singh (35). Notably, Surjit has a history of criminal activities, including multiple charges under the NDPS Act.
Among the weapons seized are two 9MM Glock pistols and four .30 bore pistols, along with two cartridges.
DGP Yadav highlighted that the suspects were engaged in illegal arms distribution to gangsters under the guidance of their associates based overseas. Ongoing investigations aim to uncover the broader network involved in this case.
Detailing the operation, Commissioner of Police (Amritsar) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar stated that after receiving intelligence about illegal weapon movements, police teams detained Gurpreet, seizing three .30 bore pistols and one Glock along with two cartridges from him.
Intensive questioning revealed that Gurpreet maintained direct communication with Pakistani smugglers via various social media channels and received shipments of illicit arms through drones for distribution to gangsters.
Based on Gurpreet's disclosures, police also arrested his associate Surjit Singh, recovering an additional Glock and a .30 bore pistol from him.
Investigations indicated that Surjit Singh played a crucial role in transporting and distributing illegal arms across various locations as part of this operation.
