This operation led to the apprehension of two individuals and the seizure of six advanced pistols, as reported by Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav on Wednesday.
The arrested individuals have been named as Gurpreet Singh, alias Gopi (22), and Surjit Singh (35), the latter having a history of criminal activity with several cases against him, including those related to the NDPS Act.
The confiscated arms consist of two 9MM Glock pistols and four .30 bore pistols, along with two cartridges.
DGP Yadav indicated that the suspects were engaged in illegal arms trafficking and were supplying weapons to gangsters under the instructions of their overseas handlers. Ongoing investigations aim to uncover further connections in this case.
Providing details on the operation, Commissioner of Police (Amritsar) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar stated that following intelligence regarding illegal weapon movement, police teams detained Gurpreet and seized three .30 bore pistols and one Glock with two cartridges from him.
Interrogation revealed that Gurpreet was in direct communication with smugglers based in Pakistan via various social media platforms, receiving illegal arms shipments through drones for gangsters. Based on Gurpreet's disclosures, police also arrested his accomplice Surjit Singh, recovering one Glock and one .30 bore pistol from him.
Investigations have shown that Surjit Singh actively participated in transporting and distributing illegal arms within the same network.
A First Information Report (FIR) was filed on January 13 under Sections 25 (1-A) and 25 (6,7 and 8) of the Arms Act at Police Station Islamabad in Amritsar.
