Chandigarh, March 28 (NationPress) In a significant development during the ongoing operation, the Counter-Intelligence (CI) unit of Punjab Police in Amritsar has dismantled a Pakistan-supported illegal arms smuggling network, resulting in the apprehension of two individuals who were distributing firearms to associates of international gangsters Lakhbir Landa and Satta Naushera.
The Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav announced on Friday that the suspects have been identified as Fateh Singh and Gurpreet Singh, both hailing from Tarn Taran district. Law enforcement teams also seized five advanced pistols, including two .30 bore PX5 pistols and three .30 bore star-marked pistols, from their possession.
The DGP stated that the CI team from Amritsar’s Tarn Taran wing received intelligence suggesting that the accused had formed connections with a Pakistan-based smuggler named Amar, who utilizes drones for transporting weapons and ammunition from across the border.
Further intelligence indicated that Fateh and Gurpreet had recently obtained a large shipment of illegal arms and ammunition, which they were preparing to distribute in Amritsar. Acting promptly, the police dispatched teams from the Counter-Intelligence unit in Tarn Taran, leading to the arrest of both individuals along with the five pistols.
DGP Yadav mentioned that initial inquiries have uncovered that the Pakistan-based arms trafficker Amar, in collaboration with his associates, was in league with gangsters Lakhbir Singh Landa and Satta Naushera from Tarn Taran, supplying illegal firearms to their Indian counterparts using drones. It was also noted that both arrested individuals maintained continuous communication with smuggler Amar.
The DGP confirmed that further investigations are underway to explore deeper links within this network and to reveal both upstream and downstream connections. A case was registered on March 27 under Sections 25, 25 (1) (A), 25 (7), and 25 (8) of the Arms Act and Section 61 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) police station in Amritsar.
