Chandigarh, March 29 (NationPress) In a significant operation against the clandestine weapon smuggling operations, the Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has successfully apprehended three individuals as part of an ongoing initiative to enhance safety in Punjab, as mandated by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, an official reported.
Authorities have confiscated six firearms, which include a 9MM Glock, two .30 bore pistols, and three locally manufactured .32 bore pistols, along with nine cartridges discovered in their possession.
The Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav identified those detained as Gurjant Singh, hailing from Sangatpura in Amritsar, and Gursharan Singh, known as Gursharandeep, alongside Abhishek, referred to as Abhi, both from Lakhuwal in Amritsar.
This arrest follows a significant breakthrough by the CI Amritsar, which dismantled a Pakistan-backed illegal arms trafficking operation, leading to the capture of two operatives supplying weapons to associates of overseas gangsters Lakhbir Landa and Satta Naushera, with five advanced pistols seized.
DGP Yadav indicated that police teams from CI Amritsar had received credible information about individuals possessing arms and plotting criminal activities in Uggar Aulakh village.
Promptly responding, the CI Amritsar team executed a raid on the Amritsar-Ajnala Road near Uggar Aulakh, resulting in the arrests, he stated.
The DGP noted that initial investigations have indicated that the arrested individuals possess a criminal background with prior cases related to the Arms Act, NDPS Act, Excise Act, and more.
Ongoing investigations aim to reveal the comprehensive scope of their operations, he added.
An FIR No. 17 dated March 29 has been filed under sections 25 of the Arms Act and sections 61 (2) and 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Police Station State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar.
