Chandigarh, March 1 (NationPress) In a rapid, intelligence-driven operation, the Counter Intelligence unit of Amritsar effectively dismantled an illegal weapon smuggling network, capturing Gurbaaz Singh, a member of the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang, and seizing six .32 bore pistols alongside 10 rounds of ammunition, as stated by Punjab's Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, on Saturday.
According to initial investigations, the seized firearms were trafficked from Madhya Pradesh for criminal purposes within Punjab.
Ongoing investigations aim to uncover the supply chain and additional individuals involved in this illicit arms trade.
“Our police teams are dedicated to revealing the entire network, pinpointing the full procurement and supply chain to dismantle it,” DGP Yadav shared on X.
In a separate significant operation this week, the primary suspect Mohit, implicated in explosion incidents at Jaintipur in Amritsar and Raimal in Batala, was neutralized during a police encounter in Batala on Thursday evening.
This incident followed swiftly after Batala Police resolved the blast cases by dismantling a Pakistan ISI-backed Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terrorist module, operated by the Pakistan-based terrorist Harvinder Rinda and the US-based terrorist Happy Passia, leading to the arrests of its two operatives — Mohit and Vishal, both from Batala.
Reports indicate that a blast occurred at a Constable's residence in Raimal on February 17, while another explosion was reported at the home of Pappu Jaitipuria in Amritsar on January 15.
The terrorist Happy Passian utilized social media to announce responsibility for both explosions.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (Border Range), Satinder Singh, mentioned that following disclosures from the accused Mohit regarding concealed arms and ammunition, he was being escorted for the recovery when he opened fire on the police party to avoid arrest, prompting the police to act in self-defense.
The injured suspect was transported to Civil Hospital Batala, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
“During this operation, one of our police officers also sustained a bullet wound,” stated the DIG.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Suhail Qasim Mir, confirmed that police teams have identified two additional suspects linked to the blast incidents, and a manhunt is underway to capture them.
