Chandigarh, April 27 (NationPress) The Punjab Police announced on Sunday that they have successfully dismantled a weapon-smuggling operation connected to Pakistan and apprehended an individual in Amritsar.
Authorities confiscated seven pistols, four cartridges, and Rs 1.5 lakh from the suspect.
“Following a precise tip-off, the Counter Intelligence Amritsar has disrupted an illegal weapon trafficking network tied to Pakistan and arrested Abhishek Kumar from Amritsar, recovering 7 pistols, comprising 5 .30 bore pistols and 2 Glock 9mm pistols, along with 4 live cartridges (.30 bore) and Rs 1,50,000 in cash,” stated Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on X.
He elaborated that a suspect based in Australia, identified as Jassa, collaborated with smugglers in Pakistan to facilitate the illicit arms trade across the Indo-Pakistan border, aided by local accomplices Jodhbir Singh, also known as Jodha, and Abhishek Kumar.
Initial inquiries suggest that Abhishek Kumar and Jodhbir Singh may be implicated in hawala transactions, pointing to their involvement in a larger network engaged in criminal endeavors.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed in Amritsar.
Ongoing investigations aim to identify additional associates and reveal all connections, as stated by DGP Yadav.
In a related initiative, as part of the ongoing anti-drug campaign ‘Yudh Nashiyan Virudh’, Moga Police, with district administration support, demolished four unlawfully constructed residences of notorious drug traffickers in Daulewala village of Moga on Saturday.
This action was carried out under the oversight of Senior Superintendent of Police (Moga) Ajay Gandhi. The demolished properties, built unlawfully on government land, belonged to drug traffickers Paramjit Singh, Lakhwinder Singh, Boota Singh, and Rajwinder Kaur, all of whom are implicated in various criminal cases filed under the IPC and the NDPS Act.
Superintendent of Police Gandhi cautioned the drug traffickers to cease their unlawful activities or face similar repercussions.
