Key Takeaways
Chandigarh, Jan 27 (NationPress) In a significant achievement, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police (CP) have dismantled a cross-border narcotics and arms smuggling operation, apprehending four individuals and seizing 1.5 kg of heroin along with Rs 1.98 lakh in drug-related cash, as reported by Punjab's Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, on Tuesday.
The arrested suspects are identified as Jaskinder Singh, also known as Sikander, Harpal Singh, Gurmukh Singh, and Sukhdeep Singh, all hailing from Ranian village in Amritsar.
In addition to the heroin and cash, police teams have confiscated two advanced firearms— a 9MM pistol and a .30 bore pistol— along with 34 cartridges manufactured in the Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF).
DGP Yadav stated that initial investigations indicate that the suspects, in collaboration with overseas handlers, have been communicating with smugglers based in Pakistan via social media platforms.
Following their directives, the suspects were retrieving shipments of illegal arms and heroin transported by drones from across the border, distributing them to various locations within Punjab.
Sharing operational insights, Amritsar's Commissioner of Police, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, revealed that the police acted on specific intelligence to conduct the operation and arrest the four suspects.
Based on the information provided by accused Gurmukh Singh and Sukhdeep Singh, police recovered the two pistols, while the heroin consignment was recovered due to the disclosures made by Jaskinder Singh and Harpal Singh.
Bhullar explained that further investigations have shown that all four suspects are closely related, belonging to an extended family. Harpal Singh and Gurmukh Singh are siblings, while Jaskinder Singh and Sukhdeep Singh are their nephews, noting that all four individuals are aged between 19 to 33 years and have no prior criminal records.
