Punjab Police Dismantles Arms Smuggling Operation, Seizes Eight Pistols

Chandigarh, Nov 30 (NationPress) In a significant crackdown on arms trafficking amidst the ongoing efforts to enhance the security of the state, the Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar successfully detained two individuals who were waiting for an accomplice to deliver a shipment of weapons smuggled from Pakistan, as reported by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Saturday.

The detained individuals have been named as Jagjit Singh, also known as Nikku, and Gurwinder Singh, referred to as Gandhi -- both hailing from Kaulowal village in Amritsar.

Police officials also recovered a total of eight advanced pistols from their possession, which included four Glock pistols manufactured in Austria, two Turkey 9mm pistols, and two X-Shot Zigana .30 bore pistols, along with ten cartridges.

DGP Yadav indicated that this operation stemmed from intelligence reports indicating that certain individuals were involved in the smuggling of large quantities of arms from Pakistan into India.

In a rapid response, police teams established a trap and apprehended Jagjit (alias Nikku) and Gurwinder (alias Gandhi) in Nurpur Padhri near Gharinda in Amritsar while they were waiting for a delivery.

The DGP mentioned that the CI Amritsar has also pinpointed the primary kingpin of this operation and several teams have been organized to capture him.

Initial inquiries have disclosed that the leader of this operation is in communication with arms smugglers based in Pakistan through encrypted applications, he added, noting that further investigations are underway to uncover both backward and forward linkages.

A case has been filed under Section 25 of the Arms Act and Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) police station in Amritsar. The suspects will be presented in a local court to request police custody.
