Punjab Police Uncover Pakistan-Supported Arms Trafficking Operation; One Arrested

Chandigarh, Jan 9 (NationPress) - Punjab Police have successfully dismantled a weapon trafficking operation backed by Pakistan, orchestrated by the fugitive smuggler Manjot Singh, known as Mannu, who is currently based in Dubai. This operation resulted in the arrest of one of his operatives, as reported by the Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Thursday.

The arrested individual has been identified as Gurpreet Singh, also referred to as Kaka, who hails from Tarn Taran. Authorities have seized three firearms: two 9MM Glock pistols and a .30 bore pistol made in China, along with four cartridges.

DGP Yadav disclosed that following a tip-off regarding a foreign-based individual, Manjot Singh, involved in weapon trafficking through Pakistan, the Amritsar Police initiated an intelligence-driven operation leading to the arrest.

Initial investigations indicate that Manjot Singh serves as the mastermind of this network, utilizing encrypted applications to communicate with his weapon smuggling associates in Pakistan. The apprehended individual was responsible for retrieving consignment drops made by drones from across the border and distributing them to gangsters in various cities within Punjab, as directed by Manjot.

The accused has been evading law enforcement in connection with a case registered under the NDPS Act at Police Station Sarai Amanat Khan in Tarn Taran in 2022.

Additionally, he is involved in another criminal case under the NDPS Act at the same police station.

The DGP mentioned that police teams are actively working to identify further accomplices and are conducting raids to apprehend them.

Ongoing investigations aim to establish comprehensive linkages relating to this case.

A formal case was registered on Wednesday under Sections 25 and 25 (1) (a) of the Arms Act and Section 61 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act at Police Station State Special Operations Cell (SSOC), Amritsar.
