Chandigarh, Jan 7 (NationPress) The Punjab Police have successfully disrupted a drug trafficking network with the arrest of four individuals, including a woman, and the seizure of five kg of heroin from their custody, as reported by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday.

The arrested individuals are identified as Gurpreet Singh (19), Baljeet Kaur (32), Maninder Singh (34), and Harpreet Singh (26).

In addition to the heroin, the police have also confiscated two motorcycles. DGP Yadav revealed that all suspects were in direct communication with smugglers based in Pakistan, receiving drug shipments from across the border.

The investigation has uncovered that these shipments were being delivered via drones.

The DGP mentioned that further inquiries are underway to establish both backward and forward connections in this case.

More arrests and drug recoveries are anticipated in the forthcoming days, he added.

Elaborating on the operation, Commissioner of Police (Amritsar) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar indicated that acting on a tip-off, a police team executed a targeted operation and detained Gurpreet Singh and Baljeet Kaur in the Guru ki Wadali area, seizing three kg of heroin on January 1.

It was disclosed that Gurpreet Singh, also known as Gopi, and Baljeet Kaur are related as uncle and aunt. Baljeet Kaur’s spouse, Balbir Singh, was apprehended in 2022 under the NDPS Act by the Hindumalkot Police Station in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, where five kg of heroin was recovered from him.

He is currently incarcerated in Karnpur Jail, Rajasthan. The Commissioner of Police stated that efforts are ongoing to uncover the entire network of suppliers, dealers, and buyers, as well as to determine the total amount of drugs procured by the apprehended individuals thus far.

A case has been filed under Sections 21(c), 23, 29, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act at the Chheharta Police Station in Amritsar.
