Chandigarh, March 22 (NationPress) In a significant operation, the Punjab Police's Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), collaborating with the Border Security Force (BSF), has successfully dismantled a smuggling ring supported by Pakistan. Three key figures were apprehended, and authorities seized 24.5 kg of heroin along with Rs 21 lakh in drug money, according to Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, on Sunday.
The individuals arrested include Jagjit Singh, also known as Rana, from Noorwal village in Amritsar, Manpreet Singh, referred to as Preet from Aulakh Khurd village in Amritsar, and Roshan Singh from Dhupsari village in Amritsar.
In addition to the heroin and cash, law enforcement officials have confiscated a multi-copter drone, utilized by smugglers based in Pakistan for transporting the drugs across the border, as well as two vehicles, including a Mahindra Thar SUV, used for narcotics distribution.
DGP Yadav noted that initial investigations indicate a direct connection between the arrested suspects and handlers operating out of Pakistan.
After a thorough technical investigation, police have effectively dismantled this cross-border network linked to Pakistan.
Further details were shared by Superintendent of Police (ANTF) Gurpreet Singh, stating that the operation unfolded in two phases, with the first phase yielding 12.1 kg of heroin along with the drone.
Following forensic analysis of the drone, including its technical data and geographic positioning, a subsequent seizure of 12.4 kg of heroin was made from Manpreet Singh's residence, bringing the total haul to 24.5 kg of heroin.
Reports reveal that Jagjit Rana had recently acquired properties in upscale areas using drug proceeds and had a preference for luxury vehicles.
As the investigation continues, more arrests and recoveries are anticipated.
A case has been filed under Sections 21 (c) and 23 of the NDPS Act and Sections 25, 26, and 29 of the Aircraft Act at the Mohali Police Station.
