Chandigarh, Sep 10 (NationPress) In a decisive move following the earlier recovery of 8 kg of heroin, the Commissionerate Police Amritsar has apprehended four additional drug traffickers and confiscated 12 kg of contraband, raising the total drug seizure in this ongoing investigation to 20 kg, as stated by Punjab's Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Wednesday.
The individuals taken into custody have been identified as Gurbhej Singh (50), his son Gurdit Singh (22), Malkit Singh (50), and Gurjit Singh (29).
The DGP also mentioned that a .30 bore pistol along with a magazine was seized from the suspects.
This development follows the Punjab Police's successful dismantling of a heroin trafficking network, leading to the capture of the infamous drug dealer known as Soni Singh, alias Soni, alongside his four accomplices: Gursewak Singh, Vishaldeep Singh, alias Gola, Gurpreet Singh, and Arshdeep Singh, who were found in possession of 8.1 kg of heroin.
According to DGP Yadav, the latest apprehensions have unveiled another segment of the trans-border cartel operating within the Tarn Taran and Amritsar Rural areas.
All suspects were reportedly using WhatsApp to coordinate with each other and communicate with smugglers based in Pakistan, he noted.
Further investigations are in progress to establish connections in this case, with more arrests and drug recoveries anticipated shortly, he added.
While sharing details of the operation, Commissioner of Police (Amritsar) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar disclosed that during questioning, the arrested drug dealer Gursewak Singh revealed that a father-son duo, Gurbhej Singh and Gurdit Singh, in conjunction with Malkit Singh, were orchestrating the local drug syndicate. Gurbhej Singh was reportedly overseeing smuggling operations in the Tarn Taran border area and maintained direct communication with smugglers in Pakistan.
Bhullar explained that Gurbhej Singh had been receiving drug consignments via drone drops onto fields owned by his associate, Malkit Singh, situated near the International border.
Gurbhej was utilizing cattle sheds to hide the heroin shipments, and following his confession, authorities recovered 10 kg of heroin from an earthen pit inside plastic containers at his residence.
