Chandigarh, March 31 (NationPress) Delivering a significant blow to cross-border drug trafficking, the Punjab Police have apprehended a drug smuggler associated with both Pakistan and US-based narcotic syndicates, confiscating 15 kg of heroin from him, as stated by Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on Monday.

The suspect has been named as Harshpreet Singh, hailing from Amritsar.

In addition to the heroin seizure, police officials have also seized a scooter utilized by the suspect for his drug smuggling operations.

This operation followed closely after the Tarn Taran police dismantled a drug trafficking ring, resulting in the arrest of two individuals and the recovery of 6 kg of heroin from them.

DGP Yadav revealed that initial investigations indicate that the drug shipment is part of a trafficking network run by a US-based smuggler, Gurnam Kallowal, who collaborates with a Pakistan-based drug dealer known as Pahalwan.

The accused reportedly utilized drones to transport the drug shipments across the border, he further noted.

Additionally, investigations have shown that Harshpreet Singh was retrieving narcotics near the border for local distribution and was transferring payments through hawala channels as directed by his handler in the US.

DGP Yadav mentioned that further inquiries are ongoing to establish both backward and forward connections in this case to expose the entire network. In sharing operational details, Senior Superintendent of Police, Tarn Taran, Abhimanyu Rana disclosed that following a tip-off regarding Harshpreet Singh’s smuggling activities, CIA police teams led by Superintendent of Police, Investigation, Ajay Raj, along with DSPs Atul Soni and Gurinder Pal Nagra, initiated an intelligence-driven operation and arrested him in the Rakh Sarai Amanat Khan area while he was about to deliver the drug consignment on his scooter.

The SSP emphasized efforts to uncover the entire network of suppliers, dealers, and buyers, while also determining the total quantity of narcotics obtained by the arrested individual. More arrests and recoveries are anticipated in the upcoming days, he concluded.
