Punjab Police Capture Drug Smuggler; 5.1 kg of Heroin Confiscated

Chandigarh, Dec 9 (NationPress) The Commissionerate Police (CP) Amritsar in Punjab has successfully apprehended a drug smuggler and confiscated 5.1 kg of heroin from him, according to Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Monday.
The individual arrested has been identified as Gurveer Singh, also known as Gora (32), who hails from Ferozepur. In addition to the heroin, law enforcement has also seized the Toyota Fortuner vehicle that the accused was using during his attempts to transport the illegal substance.
DGP Yadav mentioned that the accused was utilizing the Amritsar sector for the smuggling operations and had several cut-outs for delivering the narcotics consignments. An associate of the apprehended smuggler has been identified, and police teams are actively searching for him, he added.
He indicated that a first information report (FIR) has been lodged at the Police Station Cantonment Amritsar. Ongoing investigations are focused on identifying additional individuals involved in order to dismantle the larger network, he stated.
Elaborating on the operation, Commissioner of Police (Amritsar) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar disclosed that, acting on reliable information, a police team led by Amolakdeep Singh executed a special operation and successfully intercepted the Fortuner car on Loharka Road in Amritsar, where the accused was located.
He noted that initial investigations have indicated that the accused was returning from Attari after collecting the heroin from another smuggler, who had received the consignment from across the border.
Further inquiries have also revealed that the accused had been involved in smuggling activities for the past five to six months and had successfully delivered at least three consignments, he added.
Bhullar stated that investigations are ongoing to trace the forward and backward connections of the accused and to expose the entire network of drug suppliers, dealers, and buyers. Efforts are also being made to determine the total amount of narcotics purchased and distributed by the accused thus far, he concluded.
