Chandigarh, Feb 22 (NationPress) In a significant advancement in the ongoing inquiry concerning the recovery of 10 kg of heroin, the Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has unearthed an additional two kg of heroin hidden near a canal. This was based on information provided by an accused, leading to a total confiscation in this case of 15 kg, as stated by Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on Saturday.
This announcement follows days after the police dismantled a cross-border drug smuggling operation, resulting in the arrest of drug smuggler Harmandeep Singh from Ghumanpura village in Amritsar, where 10 kg of heroin was seized from him.
This represents the second major recovery attributed to the disclosures made by Harmandeep Singh.
Additionally, police teams apprehended Harmandeep’s accomplice, Lovepreet Singh, who was found in possession of three kg of heroin.
DGP Yadav reported that during the investigation, Harmandeep Singh revealed that he had hidden another two kg of heroin beneath a brick located by the canal near Boparai Baj Singh village along the Khurmanian to Ram Tirath link road.
Following this lead, the police successfully retrieved the heroin from the specified location provided by the accused.
The DGP indicated that the recovered heroin is part of a larger shipment smuggled from Pakistan with the aid of a Pakistan-based smuggler known as Chacha Bawa, who utilized drones to ferry the drugs across the border.
Further inquiries are underway to identify and capture other members involved in the smuggling network, he added.
In the meantime, CI Amritsar has filed 14 first information reports (FIRs) after the arrest of 29 drug smugglers in 2024, seizing a total of 153.6 kg of heroin, 4 kg of ICE drug, 31.9 kg of caffeine anhydrous, 17 kg of dextromethorphan (DMR), and Rs 1.10 crore in drug money from their possession.
