Jaipur, March 13 (NationPress) In a significant anti-smuggling operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) successfully retrieved a packet of heroin valued at around Rs 5 crore near the India-Pakistan border in the Gajsinghpur police station area of Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar district.

The heroin was reportedly released by Pakistani smugglers utilizing a drone.

The operation commenced late on Wednesday night after local residents reported a drone approaching from Pakistan and quickly notified law enforcement agencies.

Following the alert, a combined team of BSF G Branch Officer Devi Lal and CID Officer Hanuman Singh executed a search operation and found the packet approximately 2.5 kilometers into Indian territory. By dawn, Gajsinghpur police arrived at the scene and secured the packet.

The collaborative teams of BSF and CID began a comprehensive search operation at 6 a.m. on Thursday. After combing through the barley fields, they discovered a suspicious packet around 10 a.m. near the 4 FD checkpoint, situated close to pillar number 333/1S.

Upon examination, it was verified to contain 1.116 kg of heroin. Initial investigations suggest that the heroin was likely trafficked from Pakistan via drone.

Authorities suspect that additional heroin packets may be concealed in the adjacent fields.

The BSF, CID, and Gajsinghpur police have escalated search operations in the vicinity, with law enforcement establishing blockades and executing extensive patrols.

This operation represents a notable achievement in thwarting drug trafficking attempts from across the border, underscoring the vigilance and rapid response of the Border Security Force and local authorities.

Recently, in Punjab, police dismantled a gang involved in drug trafficking from Pakistan using drones for distribution across the state. Three adults were arrested, and one minor was detained in the case.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has voiced serious concern regarding the surge in drug smuggling into India via drones from the Pakistan border, highlighting that this escalating issue poses a severe threat to national security and public health.
