Chandigarh, April 20 (NationPress) In a significant achievement, the Punjab Police have dismantled a major interstate narcotics and illegal arms operation with ties to foreign entities. Four individuals were apprehended, and authorities seized 9.925 kg of heroin, along with two foreign-made .30 bore pistols, eight magazines, and 40 cartridges, as reported by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Monday.
The detained suspects include Manjinder Singh, known as Sonu, from Pathralian village in Hoshiarpur; Shivam Bhandari from Dhina in Jalandhar; Sahil Masih, alias Monu, from Pakhoke Tahli village in Gurdaspur; and Ramel Roger of Garhshankar in Hoshiarpur.
DGP Yadav stated that initial investigations indicate the accused were in direct communication with gangsters based abroad, serving as local facilitators for drug trafficking and the distribution of illegal firearms in the region.
Ongoing investigations aim to uncover further connections linked to this case to dismantle the entire network.
Sharing details of the operation, Senior Superintendent of Police (Hoshiarpur), Sandeep Kumar Malik, mentioned that police teams established a special checkpoint in the Garhshankar jurisdiction based on reliable intelligence.
During the operation, a suspicious vehicle was stopped, resulting in the capture of the four suspects and the recovery of the heroin and weaponry from their car, he noted.
The SSP also highlighted that one of the arrested individuals, Sahil Masih, is a repeat offender and is involved in a firing incident against a police team in Batala district.
As the investigation continues, more arrests and recoveries are anticipated. A First Information Report was filed on April 19 under Sections 21 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, as well as Section 25 of the Arms Act at the Garhshankar police station in Hoshiarpur.
