Chandigarh, May 17 (NationPress) In a significant blow to the drug trafficking network amid the ongoing anti-drug initiative ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, the Punjab Police’s Commissionerate Police Amritsar has dismantled two smuggling operations, leading to the apprehension of three suspects and the seizure of 1.01 kg of heroin, Rs 45.19 lakh in drug-related cash, and a cash counting machine, stated Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Saturday.
The individuals arrested have been named as Rahul Singh, Gurmukh Singh (21), and Varinderpal Singh.
DGP Yadav revealed that two first information reports (FIRs) have been lodged under the NDPS Act. Ongoing investigations aim to uncover additional connections to fully dismantle the smuggling apparatus, he noted.
Detailing the first operation, Commissioner of Police (Amritsar) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar stated that police teams apprehended Rahul alias Kalu, recovering 510 grams of heroin and Rs 30.18 lakh in drug money, along with a counting machine from his rented accommodation at Anand Vihar in Amritsar.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Rahul had ties with a foreign-based drug trafficker, Tony German, and was locally distributing heroin after receiving shipments from across the border.
An FIR has been registered under Sections 21-C and 25 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Gate Hakima in Amritsar.
In a separate operation, police teams from Police Station Verka detained Gurmukh Singh and Varinder Pal Singh, recovering 500 grams of heroin, Rs 15.19 lakh in drug money, and a camera-equipped toy drone from them.
The suspects had constructed a concealed bed-box (secret locker) at a residence in Akalgarh village, from which drug money was recovered. Additionally, the suspects were utilizing the toy drone for practice.
