Chandigarh, Jan 7 (NationPress) In a significant intelligence-driven operation, the Punjab Police’s State Special Operation Cell of Mohali, in collaboration with the Counter Intelligence team from Ludhiana, successfully detained two suspects who were plotting a targeted killing under the guidance of handlers based abroad, revealed Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on Wednesday.
A 9 mm pistol and five cartridges were confiscated from the accused hailing from Ludhiana.
Initial investigations indicate that the detained individuals were in communication with handlers from the UK and Germany, linked to the Khalistan Commando Force (KCF) and associated with extremist ideologies.
“Following their directives, the arrested suspects conducted reconnaissance of government buildings and prominent offices in Ludhiana as part of their conspiracy,” stated the DGP in a post on X.
Moreover, they were assigned the task of gathering intelligence and laying groundwork concerning several more identified targets.
A first information report (FIR) has been lodged in Mohali, and further investigations are ongoing to unearth both forward and backward linkages.
Just a day prior, police thwarted another targeted killing by apprehending three individuals associated with the Arsh Dalla gang, seizing four illegal pistols, four magazines, and 26 cartridges. The suspects include Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Gill Patti in Bathinda who had recently come from Canada; Gurwinder Singh, from Kotshamir in Bathinda; and Gagandeep Singh, from Bhokhra village in Bathinda.
The confiscated firearms include a Glock, a Zigana, a .30 bore pistol, and a .32 bore pistol.
DGP Yadav noted that preliminary investigations indicated the detained individuals were preparing to carry out a targeted killing.
One of the suspects, Kuldeep Singh, had returned from Canada to Bathinda specifically for the planned attack.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Bathinda) Amneet Kondal mentioned that during questioning, the suspects revealed their involvement in an ongoing inter-gang conflict.
In another update, DGP Yadav announced that the Anti-Gangster Task Force of the Punjab Police activated its toll-free helpline 1800-330-1100, providing a confidential channel for citizens to report threats, extortion, and organized crime.
