Chandigarh, May 6 (NationPress) In a significant achievement against ISI-supported cross-border terrorism, the Punjab Police, in collaboration with a central agency, uncovered a stash of terrorist equipment during an intelligence-driven operation in the wooded region close to Tibba Nangal-Kular road in SBS Nagar district, as stated by Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday.
The haul consisted of two rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), two improvised explosive devices (IEDs), five P-86 hand grenades, and one wireless communication set.
DGP Yadav indicated that initial investigations pointed to a synchronized effort by Pakistan’s ISI and associated terror groups aimed at reactivating sleeper cells within Punjab.
An FIR has been lodged under pertinent legal provisions at the State Special Operation Cell police station in Amritsar.
“An FIR under relevant provisions of law has been registered at PS State Special Operation Cell (#SSOC) Amritsar. @PunjabPoliceInd remains dedicated to protecting national security and dismantling terror infrastructure in the state,” the DGP mentioned on his X account.
Previously, in a notable counter-espionage initiative, Amritsar Rural Police apprehended two individuals on Sunday for their suspected involvement in leaking sensitive data and images of Army cantonment areas and airbases in Amritsar.
The arrested individuals, identified as Falaksher Masih and Suraj Masih, both from Balarhwal in Ajnala, were reportedly sending sensitive intelligence to Pakistan’s intelligence agency.
Preliminary investigations have established their connections to Pakistani intelligence agents, linked through Harpreet Singh, also known as Pittu or Happy, who is currently incarcerated in Amritsar Central Jail.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Amritsar Rural) Maninder Singh stated that both suspects were involved in gathering and relaying vital information such as Army movements, locations of BSF camps, airfield locations, images, and other confidential data to their contacts in Pakistan.
In a prompt response, an FIR was filed at the Ajnala police station under Sections 3, 5, and 9 of the Official Secrets Act, Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, and Section 61 (2) of BNS. The arrested individuals are undergoing extensive interrogation.
