Chandigarh, Jan 27 (NationPress) In a significant achievement, the Amritsar Counter Intelligence unit of Punjab Police has successfully disrupted a planned targeted killing in Punjab by apprehending six individuals linked to the Kaushal Chaudhary gang, including prominent associates, as stated by Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on Monday.

The suspects have been named as Puneet Lakhanpal and Narinder Kumar.

These individuals had been on the run for the past three years and were directly implicated in the assassinations of kabaddi player Sandeep Singh Nangal Ambian in 2022 and Sukhmeet Singh in 2021.

Yadav reported their involvement in a shooting incident at the Highway King Hotel in Rajasthan, as well as in extortion attempts amounting to ₹5 crore in September of last year.

Authorities seized six advanced firearms and 40 rounds of ammunition from their possession.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged in Amritsar.

Sandeep Singh Sandhu, known as Sandeep Nangal Ambian, was shot dead in broad daylight by assailants during an international kabaddi match at Mallian Khurd village in Jalandhar on March 14, 2022, amidst a feud among kabaddi associations over international and national leagues.

At that time, the Bambiha gang claimed responsibility for the assassination, leading police to capture sharpshooters hired from Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh.

The police also apprehended noted kabaddi promoter Surjan Singh Chatha, a primary suspect in the case.

Chatha, who holds British nationality, was initially not charged, but his name emerged during the investigation, resulting in his inclusion in the FIR filed under murder charges.

For the killing of former Jalandhar rural Congress president and councillor Sukhmeet Singh, also known as Deputy, the Davinder Bambiha gang took accountability.

The police have filed charges against four gang members, including Gaurav Patial based in Armenia, shooter Vijay Maley, Puneet from Jalandhar, and one unidentified individual, under murder charges and the Arms Act.
