Key Takeaways
Chandigarh, April 6 (NationPress) In a significant achievement, the Counter Intelligence (CI) unit of the Punjab Police has dismantled a terror operation supported by the ISI, managed by Pakistani Intelligence agents. The police apprehended three suspects and seized two Arges hand grenades along with a foreign-manufactured Glock pistol, as confirmed by the Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Monday.
The arrested individuals are Sarabjit Singh from Ammishah village in Tarn Taran, Bikramjit Singh from Nangal Pannuwan village in Amritsar, and Amandeep Singh from Indra Colony in Amritsar.
DGP Yadav noted that the grenades retrieved have identifiable markings from the Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF), pointing to cross-border connections. Initial investigations suggest that this module was systematically targeting police facilities across various states, a threat that has now been successfully neutralized.
Ongoing efforts are in place to locate, monitor, and capture additional members of this group.
Providing operational insights, AIG (Special Operations) Sukhminder Singh Mann reported that in an intelligence-driven initiative, police teams arrested Sarabjit Singh and Amandeep Singh, recovering the grenades and the firearm from them.
Further investigation revealed that the main operative and primary liaison with the Pakistani Intelligence agents, Bikramjit Singh, was operating from Deesa in Gujarat. This information was promptly communicated to the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), who assisted in the arrest of Bikramjit Singh by a Punjab Police team.
AIG Mann mentioned that the investigation uncovered that all suspects maintained contact with Pakistani Intelligence operatives through social media platforms.
Additionally, it was found that, under the guidance of ISI handlers, the group was plotting grenade attacks on various police establishments in Punjab and beyond.
A case has been filed under Section 4 of the Explosive Substances (Amendment) Act, Section 25 of the Arms Act, and Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Amritsar police station.
