Chandigarh, April 6 (NationPress) In a significant achievement against cross-border smuggling and terrorism, the Amritsar Rural Police detained a man named Jarman Singh, who is associated with ISI, along with an arsenal of weapons and counterfeit currency, as reported by Punjab's Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Sunday.
A Glock 9mm pistol, a .30 calibre pistol, three magazines, and Rs 2,15,500 in fake currency were recovered during the operation.
Initial investigations suggest that the shipment originated from operatives of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Pakistan's leading intelligence agency, aimed at inciting unrest in the area, according to DGP Yadav.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed at the police station in Gharinda, Amritsar.
Ongoing investigations are focused on both forward and backward connections, he added.
In a related incident last week, the Counter Intelligence (CI) unit in Amritsar thwarted a potential terror attack by arresting an operative linked to the ISI, recovering a hand grenade from his possession.
The apprehended individual was identified as Jaiveer Tyagi, also known as Jawed, who hails from Baroli village in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, but was residing in Ludhiana at the time.
DGP Yadav mentioned that the CI Amritsar teams had received intelligence indicating that a foreign-based person known as Sehlam, affiliated with the ISI, along with his cousin Jaiveer Tyagi, were plotting to attack government infrastructure to disrupt peace in different cities.
Further information indicated that Tyagi had obtained the hand grenade from the Amritsar area and was waiting for accomplices near Tara Wala Pul in Amritsar to execute a major crime. Acting swiftly on credible information, police teams from CI Amritsar conducted an intelligence-led operation, leading to Tyagi's arrest and the recovery of a hand grenade. DGP Yadav also noted that investigations revealed Tyagi had been living in Ludhiana for the past 14-15 years and was in contact with Sehlam via encrypted messaging applications, having procured the grenade as per Sehlam's directives.
