Chandigarh, April 1 (NationPress) In a significant achievement during the ongoing efforts to enhance security in Punjab, as directed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has successfully prevented a potential terror attack by apprehending an operative associated with Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency. Additionally, one hand grenade was seized from his possession, as reported by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday.
The individual arrested has been identified as Jaiveer Tyagi, also known as Jawed, who hails from Baroli Village in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh (UP), but is currently residing in Ludhiana.
DGP Yadav stated that the CI Amritsar team received credible intelligence indicating that an individual based abroad, identified as Sehlam, who operates on behalf of the Pakistan-ISI agency, alongside his cousin Jaiveer Tyagi, has been plotting to attack government infrastructure in various cities to disrupt peace and stability in the state.
Further intelligence suggested that Tyagi had acquired the hand grenade from the Amritsar area and was awaiting the arrival of his accomplices near Tara Wala Pul to execute a significant crime. Acting quickly on these credible reports, police teams from CI Amritsar conducted an intelligence-led operation that resulted in the arrest of Jaiveer Tyagi and the recovery of the hand grenade.
The DGP added that investigations revealed that Jaiveer had been living in Ludhiana for approximately 14-15 years and was in contact with Sehlam via encrypted messaging applications.
It was also discovered that Jaiveer had obtained the grenade under the directions of Sehlam, with further investigations ongoing to establish the connections surrounding this case.
