Chandigarh, April 30 (NationPress) - The Amritsar Commissionerate of Punjab Police has successfully prevented a possible grenade assault on police facilities by apprehending five individuals affiliated with a terrorist network supported by Pakistan's ISI, namely the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). This group is linked to the overseas gangster Jiwan Fauji, as announced by the Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, on Wednesday.

The arrested suspects are Naresh Kumar, known as Babbu; Abhinav Bhagat, also called Abhi; Ajay Kumar, referred to as Ajju; and Sunny Kumar, all hailing from Haripura in Amritsar, along with a 17-year-old minor.

Authorities have seized a hand grenade and a locally manufactured .32 caliber pistol, accompanied by five cartridges.

DGP Yadav revealed that the gangster Jiwan Fauji, who is currently operating from outside the country, had established a terror network in the border districts of Punjab with the assistance of the arrested individuals, who were radicalized to carry out criminal operations.

Further inquiries have disclosed that those apprehended were supplied with motorcycles and assigned the task of collecting arms from the Ajnala sector, as stated by the DGP.

The suspects were actively planning to target police facilities using grenades.

Ongoing investigations aim to identify both forward and backward connections in this case, according to the DGP.

In additional developments, Commissioner of Police, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, reported that during a follow-up operation, accused Ajay Kumar attempted to flee by seizing a police weapon and firing at the officers.

He sustained injuries to his leg during the police's return fire and is currently receiving medical treatment at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in Amritsar.

The Commissioner also noted that the investigation has revealed that the suspects provided logistical support to assailants who recently opened fire on a shopkeeper in Mahal village, Amritsar.

Investigations continue to uncover more connections within this terror network. A case has been filed under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Islamabad police station in Amritsar.
