This network was managed by overseas handlers Mannu Agwan, Gopi Nawashehria, and Zeeshan Akhtar, all acting under the guidance of Pakistan-based BKI operative Harwinder Rinda.
The five suspects were arrested in the Tonk and Jaipur districts of Rajasthan, successfully thwarting planned attacks. DGP Yadav noted that the module had intended to carry out an attack inside a liquor store in SBS Nagar, Punjab, and was also instructed to attempt similar attacks on Independence Day.
The apprehended individuals were under direct orders from foreign handlers Zeeshan Akhtar and BKI leader Mannu Agwan, who is in close cooperation with Rinda.
In a statement on X, the DGP reported that one suspect was injured during an exchange of gunfire while being taken for recovery. “He opened fire on the police and sustained injuries in retaliatory action, and is now hospitalized at the Civil Hospital of SBS Nagar,” the DGP stated.
A first information report (FIR) has been filed at the Nawanshahr police station in SBS Nagar district under applicable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Explosive Substances Act.
Authorities recovered an 86P hand grenade, a .30 bore pistol with two cartridges, and two empty shells of the same caliber.
To ensure a peaceful Independence Day celebration, DGP Yadav briefed the police force on the prevailing security situation and reviewed counter-terrorism strategies. The DGP also conducted law and order review meetings and outreach sessions with officers from Commissionerates such as Amritsar, Jalandhar, and Ludhiana, along with police ranges including Border, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, and Ropar.
Additionally, he assessed the ongoing anti-drug campaign ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ and efforts against gangsters and organized crime. The DGP emphasized the necessity of conducting financial investigations against hawala operators to dismantle the comprehensive ecosystem of drug trafficking.
