New Delhi, June 1 (NationPress) In a significant breakthrough in the relentless campaign against Pakistan's ISI-supported terror factions, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police have effectively dismantled an extortion ring affiliated with the proscribed organization Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).
This operation targeted a module allegedly led by BKI operative Jeevan Fauji, resulting in the capture of two pivotal associates.
Karajpreet Singh, a local from Verowal in Tarn Taran, and Gurlal Singh, also known as Harman, from Goindwal Sahib, were detained during a focused operation. Both suspects were reportedly acting under the direct orders of Jeevan Fauji, who continues to be an active member of BKI.
“Initial investigations indicate that Jeevan Fauji, an operational member of BKI, was managing an extortion scheme aimed at individuals in the border regions of Punjab. He had supplied a .30 bore pistol to Karajpreet and Gurlal, instructing them to open fire at a furniture establishment in the Amritsar vicinity. This shooting was part of an extortion bid, where Jeevan Fauji sought a ransom from a relative of the shop owner residing in Canada,” stated Gaurav Yadav, IPS, Punjab’s Director General of Police, in a post on X.
“Based on the information from accused Gurlal Singh, a police team took him along to recover the weapon used during the crime,” the DGP continued. However, during the weapon retrieval operation, Gurlal allegedly tried to shoot at the police unit, prompting a rapid response from the officers.
“In the ensuing confrontation, Gurlal sustained a bullet wound to his left leg and was promptly transported to Civil Hospital, Amritsar, for medical assistance,” Yadav added.
An FIR has been filed, and the inquiry is ongoing. Authorities are actively working to identify and apprehend the remaining members of the network to fully dismantle this module.
Punjab Police reiterated its commitment to ensuring law and order: “We remain resolute in our mission to eliminate terror modules and uphold peace and harmony within the region.”
