Chandigarh, Dec 15 (NationPress) The Punjab Police, collaborating with central agencies, have successfully apprehended two individuals who transitioned from gangsters to terrorists associated with the proscribed group Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) upon their arrival in Mumbai, announced Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Monday.

The arrested suspects have been named as Sajan Masih, hailing from Veroke in Gurdaspur, and Sukhdev Kumar, also known as Munish Bedi, from Lahori Gate in Amritsar.

Both individuals possess a significant criminal background, with numerous charges including murder, attempted murder, possession of arms and explosives, and violations under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), registered across various police stations in Batala and Amritsar.

DGP Yadav indicated that both suspects are crucial links to Harvinder Singh, alias Rinda, who is supported by the ISI and Harpreet Singh, alias Happy Passia, a detained operative of BKI based in the USA.

“These individuals were operating from international locations, including Dubai and Armenia, while attempting to execute criminal and terrorist activities in Punjab,” he stated, deeming this operation a major achievement for the state police.

In a series of ongoing efforts, the Punjab Police have also issued look out circulars (LOC) and red corner notices against various fugitives who have sought refuge in foreign countries, aiding in the tracking of these criminals.

The DGP further explained that initial investigations suggest that the suspects were part of a network affiliated with BKI, which has been responsible for several grenade assaults on police stations in Amritsar and Batala, along with the murders of Hardeep Singh from Jourrian Kalan and Ravi Kumar of Dera Baba Nanak.

Notably, the accused Sajan Masih was also in contact with another key associate, Shamsher Shera, known as Honey, who is currently situated in Armenia.

Providing operational insights, Assistant Inspector General (Amritsar) Sukhminder Singh Mann stated that acting on precise intelligence gathered in close collaboration with central agencies, a joint unit from the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) of Amritsar and Counter Intelligence of Pathankot swiftly proceeded to Mumbai and secured both criminals immediately upon their arrival.

He confirmed that both suspects were actively engaged in offering logistical support, financial resources, and strategic guidance to their operatives active in Punjab.
