New Delhi, Feb 16 (NationPress) The Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, is scheduled to meet Jonas Gahr Støre, the Prime Minister of Norway, and conduct bilateral discussions with Norwegian Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg as well as the Minister for Trade and Industry, Cecilie Myrseth, as confirmed on Monday.
Additionally, she will engage in a roundtable dialogue with Norwegian CEOs and investors, along with an interaction with the diaspora during a community gathering, as noted in a posting from the Finance Ministry on X.
“During her two-day stay in Oslo, the Union Finance Minister will meet with Jonas Gahr Støre, the Prime Minister of Norway; hold bilateral discussions with Norwegian Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg and Minister for Trade and Industry Cecilie Myrseth, and participate in engagements at the Oslo Science Park where she will connect with start-ups,” the ministry elaborated.
Previously, FM Sitharaman had discussions with prominent leaders and business figures during her trip to Germany, focusing on bilateral trade relations in the context of the EU-India FTA agreement.
She interacted with Keith Svendsen, CEO of APM Terminals, in Munich. Svendsen highlighted the enduring and positive relationship between Maersk and India, mentioning significant investments and partnerships within India's maritime ecosystem.
He expressed the commitment to further develop this relationship across India, according to the ministry.
Svendsen also commended India’s reform initiatives over the years, particularly regarding deregulation and improvements in the business environment, and discussed key announcements from the recent budget, including developments related to container manufacturing.
The two also deliberated on the benefits of the recently concluded India-EU FTA, particularly in relation to expanding Indian and European markets and the forthcoming advantages for businesses on both ends.
During her visit, the Finance Minister also met with Lars Klingbeil, Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister of Finance in Germany, discussing the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz in India in January, which bolstered bilateral ties, especially in defence, trade, and technology.
Klingbeil emphasized that the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is a significant milestone for trade and investment in India and particularly highlighted bilateral development cooperation and the expansion of metro rail in India, according to a post on X by the Finance Ministry.
She also informed Klingbeil about the success of India's digital payment systems and expressed a willingness to share best practices regarding India's digital framework with Germany.
FM Sitharaman also met with Brigitte Haas, Prime Minister of Liechtenstein, and Alois Philipp Maria, Hereditary Prince Alois of Liechtenstein, during her time in Munich.
