Shillong, April 18 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K. Sangma, officially inaugurated the foundation stone for a comprehensive multi-facility building in Dakopgre, located in West Garo Hills. He characterized this initiative as a “long-awaited dream” for the local community while reiterating the government’s commitment to inclusive development.
During his speech to a gathering that included community members, officials, and local leaders, Sangma highlighted that this project represents the significant transformation that has taken place in the state over the last eight years.
“Working alongside my colleagues and staff, we have collectively brought forth visible and impactful changes. It is truly inspiring to witness the rapid progress in Tura,” he remarked.
The Chief Minister underscored the importance of the new facility as a dynamic community center tailored for both youth and women.
He proposed that the building should house various programs for skill development, spaces for indoor sports, music, activities, coaching centers, and study areas.
Emphasizing women's empowerment, he advocated for training programs in areas such as tailoring, handicrafts, and food processing. He also pointed out key infrastructure projects, including the P. A. Sangma Integrated Sports Complex, the Additional Secretariat, and a forthcoming five-star hotel, which he anticipated would significantly enhance tourism and economic activity in the region.
Additionally, he detailed plans to beautify P. A. Sangma Road through initiatives like street lighting, CCTV installations, landscaping, and the creation of green spaces. Regarding connectivity, he mentioned the ongoing construction of Baljek Airport, asserting that its completion will further stimulate growth in Tura and its surrounding areas.
Sangma noted that Tura is set to host six disciplines of the 2027 National Games, with the closing ceremony also taking place there, which he referred to as a significant milestone for Meghalaya.
He announced that ₹52 lakh has been allocated for this project, funded jointly by the Chief Minister’s Special Development Fund and the Meghalaya Basin Development Authority. He urged all stakeholders to uphold quality standards during the construction process.
Encouraging active public involvement, he highlighted the necessity of collaboration between citizens and the government to ensure sustainable development and the successful organization of major events.
The event was graced by local leaders, community members, and dignitaries, featuring cultural performances and community presentations to celebrate the occasion.
