Kolkata, Nov 9 (NationPress) A four-year-old girl has reportedly been sexually assaulted in the Hooghly district of West Bengal. Following this incident, the BJP has condemned the Mamata government for the declining law and order situation in the region.
In a late-night social media update, Sukanta Majumdar, the Union Minister of State for Education and DoNER, drew attention to the incident and criticized the law enforcement situation in the state.
“Even a four-year-old girl is not safe under Mamata Banerjee's harrowing rule. The family of the victim from Tarkeshwar, Hooghly, claims she was abducted from her home while she was asleep and subjected to rape. After enduring a prolonged ordeal, she was rescued in a severely injured condition,” Majumdar stated.
“Strangely, when the victim's family approached the local police in Tarkeshwar to file a rape report, they were turned away and denied the opportunity to lodge their complaint,” the BJP leader further remarked.
The Union Minister asserted that women are unsafe in Bengal, facing torture across the state.
“What kind of monstrous West Bengal allows a sleeping child to be kidnapped and assaulted? From urban areas to rural locales, women are being oppressed and tortured everywhere! It is a horrific reality where those meant to uphold the law are instead protecting the perpetrators. How much longer will Mamata Banerjee cling to power?” Majumdar questioned.
According to police reports, the four-year-old girl, who had taken refuge at the Tarkeshwar railway station, was allegedly abducted while asleep and sexually abused in the early hours of Saturday.
The family reported her missing since early Saturday morning.
After extensive searches, the child was found in a drain near the station later that afternoon.
She was subsequently taken to Tarkeshwar Rural Hospital and released after receiving initial medical care.
“A case has been registered based on the family’s complaint, though no arrests have been made yet. We will ensure appropriate action is taken against the perpetrator,” stated a senior officer from the Hooghly district police.
