FPJ President: Strong annual reports raise India Inc transparency bar
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Free Press Journal (FPJ) President Abhishek Karnani on 14 May said that robust annual reporting by organisations reinforces higher standards of transparency and drives better corporate practices across India Inc. He was addressing the fourth edition of the FPJ and CareEdge Annual Report Awards in Mumbai.
FPJ's Broader Governance Ambition
Karnani outlined FPJ's intent to evolve the awards platform into a credible corporate think tank, centred on conversations around governance, accountability, and best practices. He pointed to transparency as central to FPJ's own growth story, noting that the publication has become Mumbai's second-largest English daily — and the only one with circulation independently certified by the Audit Bureau of Circulation.
Annual Reports as Governance Mirrors
The event drew corporate leaders, policymakers, investors, and governance experts, positioning annual reports not merely as statutory obligations but as reflections of an organisation's strategic clarity, sustainability outlook, and long-term vision. Swati Agarwal, CEO–Advisory at Care Analytics and Advisory Pvt Ltd, noted that annual reports today increasingly incorporate ESG metrics, climate-risk mitigation strategies, and long-term value creation frameworks — well beyond traditional financial disclosures.
Hall of Fame: Bhaskar Bhat Honoured
A standout moment of the evening was the Hall of Fame Award presented to Bhaskar Bhat, former Managing Director of Titan and current Chairperson of Kansai Nerolac Paints. The citation recognised his role in transforming Titan into one of India's most trusted consumer brands, building a leadership legacy grounded in integrity, trust, and long-term value creation, according to an official statement.
Panel Discussions and Sector Recognition
The ceremony also recognised several companies across sectors for excellence in annual reporting. Panel discussions moderated by Vivek Law featured veteran investor Raamdeo Agrawal and business strategist Rama Bijapurkar, covering market evolution, consumer behaviour, long-term investing, and India's shifting corporate landscape. Notably, this was the fourth consecutive year the awards have convened India's governance community around the quality and depth of corporate disclosures. As ESG and stakeholder accountability gain regulatory weight in India, platforms that benchmark reporting quality are likely to grow in influence.
